Communication Module Overview

Introduction The Communication Module (CM) serves as a one-to-one interface to the MPs, facilitating communication with various external devices and systems. Trident v2 CM offers extensive communication capabilities, including connections to external host computers, distributed control systems (DCS), open networks, network printers, and other Trident v2 and Tricon version 9–10 systems.

Redundancy and Expansion Two CMs can be deployed for redundant communication connections or to add additional independent communication ports. This setup enhances system reliability and flexibility.

Communication Capabilities

Serial Ports

• Each CM features three optically isolated RS-232 or RS-485 serial ports.
• User-configurable for Modbus point-to-point or multi-point connections.
• Selectable transmission rates up to 115 kilobits per second per port.

Network Ports

• Two network ports per CM, configured as follows:
  • One 10-megabit Ethernet port with 10BaseT and Attachment Unit Interface (AUI).
  • One 100-megabit Ethernet port with 100BaseTX and Media Independent Interface (MII).
• Media adapter units can be used to convert network ports to other Ethernet media types or extend network distances.
