Bently Nevada 3500/34 TMR Relay Module
Bently Nevada 3500/34 TMR Relay Module
Technical Specifications:
3500/34 TMR Relay Module
Description For applications requiring extremely high availability similar to safety instrumented systems described in ISA S84.01-1996, the 3500 Series Machinery Protection System includes a Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Relay Module. This module uses three independent relays to drive a single relay output, working with a TMR Rack Interface Module and three monitor modules to provide 2-out-of-3 voting for inputs. Each relay includes "Alarm Drive Logic" programmed using AND and OR logic, which can utilize alarming inputs from any monitor channel in the rack. This logic is programmed via the 3500 Rack Configuration Software to meet specific application needs.
Functionality The 3500/34 TMR Relay Module consists of two main components: the TMR Relay Module (quantity of two) and the TMR Relay I/O Module. Once programmed, the two TMR Relay Modules perform functions in parallel, providing redundancy. Each component's purpose is detailed below:
TMR Relay Module The TMR Relay Module drives three independent Alarm Contact Signals for each of the four relay channels based on user-programmed Alarm Drive Logic. Each channel’s Alarm Drive Logic is programmed via the 3500 Rack Configuration Software. Within a TMR Rack, three monitors provide alarm signals through three separate data paths. The TMR Relay Module evaluates each path independently, produces three Alarm Contact Signals, and passes them to the TMR Relay I/O Module. If a data path's OK Status is NOT OK, the corresponding Alarm Contact Signal is invalid.
TMR Relay I/O Module The TMR Relay I/O Module contains 12 relays arranged in four-channel groups of three relays each, providing 2-out-of-3 relay voting for each channel. For each channel, the TMR Relay Module provides three Alarm Contact Signals, each input to one relay in the group. This design enables 2-out-of-3 voting. Additionally, each TMR Relay Module provides an OK status evaluated by the TMR Relay I/O Module. If the module is NOT OK, the I/O Module disregards its Alarm Contact Signals.
