The ABB AC 800F controller features a modular design. The CPU is designed as a backplane, allowing different modules to be connected based on the specific application requirements – including power supply units, Ethernet, and fieldbus modules. The main supported bus protocols include:

• FOUNDATION Fieldbus HSE
• MODBUS (Master/Slave, RTU or ASCII)
• IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-104
• CAN bus for Freelance rack-mounted I/O

Fieldbus and device connections can be fully configured and parameterized through the Freelance Engineering Station software, eliminating the need for additional external software tools.
