Description

Designed for the most critical control programs, the supervised digital output (SDO) modules are ideal for systems where outputs remain in a single state for extended periods, sometimes years. Each SDO module receives output signals from the main processors on three channels. The signals are voted upon by a fully fault-tolerant quadruplicated output switch with power transistors, producing a single voted output signal passed to the field termination.

The SDO modules feature voltage and current loopback circuitry, along with sophisticated online diagnostics, verifying the operation of each output switch, the field circuit, and the presence of a load. This comprehensive fault coverage does not interfere with the output signal. The "supervised" designation indicates the module's ability to detect potential field problems, including:

• Loss of power or blown fuse
• Open or missing load
• Field short causing unintended load energization
• Shorted load in the de-energized state

Field voltage detection failure on any output point triggers the power alarm indicator, while load presence detection failure triggers the load alarm indicator. All SDO modules support hot-spare modules and require a separate external termination panel (ETP) with a cable interface to the Tricon backplane.
