Overview of Remote Baseplates
Remote baseplates are integral components in systems utilizing Series 90*-30 PLCs, providing expansion capabilities beyond the limitations of the CPU baseplate alone. Below are key points summarizing their features and usage:
System Connectivity and Limitations:
- Cable Length Restriction: The total cable length connecting all baseplates in a system employing remote baseplates should not exceed 700 feet, ensuring efficient communication within the system.
- Dependency on CPU: Remote baseplates must be connected to a system with a CPU, either within a PLC or a personal computer equipped with a Personal Computer Interface Card.
- Built-in Isolation: Remote baseplates feature built-in isolation between the +5 volt logic supply for I/O modules and the interface circuit supply, preventing issues related to unbalanced ground conditions.
Maximum Baseplate Allowance:
- CPU Dependency: The maximum number of remote baseplates allowed per system varies based on the type of CPU used. For CPUs numbered 331, 340, and 341, the maximum is 4, while CPUs numbered 350 and higher support up to 7 remote baseplates.
Physical Characteristics and Compatibility:
- Connector and Sizes: Each remote baseplate is equipped with a 25-pin female D-type Expansion connector for inter-baseplate connections and is available in two sizes: 5-slot (IC693CHS398) and 10-slot (IC693CHS392).
- Module Support: Remote baseplates support a wide range of I/O and option modules, with the exception of certain intelligent option modules such as PCM, ADC, BEM330, and CMM, which must be mounted in the CPU baseplate.
- Consistency with Expansion Baseplates: Remote baseplates share the same physical size, utilize the same power supplies, and offer compatibility with the same I/O and option modules as expansion baseplates.
Rack Number Selection:
- DIP Switch Feature: Each remote baseplate is equipped with a Rack Number Selection DIP switch, facilitating system configuration and identification.
